I am a professor at the University of Basque Country, menber of the Ecofisco group and a plant ecophysiologist.
I am broadly interested in understanding how plants interact with their environment and what mechanisms are responsible for the acclimation and adaptation of plants, with a special focus on the role of plant carotenoids. I am an expert in the study of the role and dynamics of photoprotective compounds in plant stress tolerance in a wide number of species across a wide number of environmental factors.
My research is characterized by a multidisciplinary perspective, covering from ecological to biochemical point of view, also with a more direct application of the knowledge in human nutrition.
